Albert Jensen & Sons Inc
Background
The Port of Friday Harbor (the Port) recently purchased the site from Albert Jensen & Sons, Inc. with the intent to redevelop the site and address existing environmental concerns. Ecology plans to work with the Port to design and implement a cleanup plan for the site. Recent sampling of the upland soil and marine sediment at the site identified contaminants including tributyltin (TBT), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxins/furans, phthalates, organic chemicals, pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and metals.
Status
Investigation work to date includes:
· 2017 Environmental Site Assessment – Preliminary investigation of the site was conducted to determine the likelihood of the presence of hazardous substances in, on, or at the property.
· 2018 Initial Investigation Report – identified contaminants of concern in the soil and marine sediment at the site.
· 2018 Sediment Data Report – further characterized sediment contamination at the site.
· 2019 Conceptual Site Model and Data Gaps Report – identified primary contaminant sources in the upland portion of the site and summarized data gaps.
· 2022 Remedial Investigation Work Plan – used to guide the field investigations, analytical work, and decision-making for the site or sediment cleanup
unit.
