Station 05H070 Description
Squire Creek originates near Whitehorse Mountain, elevation 6,530 feet, to the west, Summit Mountain, 5,480 feet, to the east, and Squire Creek Pass to the south. This is a scenic and recreational area that includes a variety of trails and camping facilities. The headwater region of Squire Creek, near Whitehorse Mountain, is presently a candidate for consideration in the National Wilderness Preservation System. Squire Creek is a third order stream, a large tributary to the N.F. Stillaguamish River, and enters the river on the left bank near river mile 31.2. Squire Creek drains a watershed of 25 square miles and is about 9.5 miles in long, with 7 tributaries adding 16.5 linear stream miles. The upper 4.5 miles of the creek are in the Mt. Baker National Forest. Squire Creek offers about 8 miles of stream for salmon use. Tributaries offer an additional 5.5 miles of habitat. Chinook spawn mainly in Squire Creek, while pink, chum, coho and steelhead use the mainstem plus each accessible tributary. Juvenile salmon rear in all accessible stream areas.
