Site Description
An initial investigation was conducted in July 2011 by Okanogan County Public Health. Oil staining patterns were observed in a driveway and soil samples were collected from the driveway. Analyses of the soil samples revealed concentrations of diesel and heavy oil range petroleum hydrocarbons that exceed Ecology’s Model Toxics Control Act Method A Unrestricted Soil Cleanup Levels. In addition, the investigator noted areas of very black oil-stained soil adjacent to the metal shop building on the property.
After a Site Hazard Assessment conducted in 2012, the Site was ranked a “1” on the Hazardous Sites List. The Hazardous Sites List is a statewide list of contaminated properties. Sites can be ranked from a “1” to “5”. A rank of “1” is the highest level of environmental concern compared to other sites on the List, and a rank of “5” is the lowest.
In 2017, Ecology followed up with a site visit and met with the property owner who stated that the stained soil was excavated and placed into a plastic container onsite. The areas where the staining was reported no longer had evidence of contamination. Soil samples confirmed that no contamination remained above state cleanup levels.
Ecology has determined the site does not pose a threat to human health or the environment.
