Monte De Sion Church
Facility Site ID:
20838
Cleanup Site ID:
11948
In April 2012, a 250-gallon underground heating oil tank was excavated and removed during construction to expand the church located on the property. It was reported that 20 gallons of heating oil had leaked from the tank as a result of the removal. Soil samples taken from the tank excavation showed diesel/heavy oil range concentrations above MTCA Method A cleanup levels.
In October 2012, Ecology's contractor removed as much of the petroleum impacted soil as possible without jeopardizing the integrity of the adjacent church building. Groundwater impacts were not investigated during the soil removal activities.
In 2021, Ecology was made aware that the church structure was no longer present at the Site, and soil sampling and groundwater sampling was conducted to determine if any soil or groundwater contamination remained above cleanup levels.
A total of nine (9) soil and groundwater samples were collected and analyzed for the same constituents as the 2012 sampling. No petroleum was found above cleanup levels in any of the samples collected in 2021.
In October 2021, Ecology issued a No Further Action determination for the Site using Model Remedy No. 1, as identified in Ecology's "Model Remedies for Sites with Petroleum Groundwater" (Publication No. 16-09-057, December 2017).
