Site Background

The site has operated as an auto repair business since at least the 1990s. In 1995 during an inspection at the site petroleum-stained soil was observed and waste oil was being improperly dumped in a container, which had spilled onto the ground.

What Has Been Done

During a 1996 site investigation, about 300 square feet of contaminated soil was observed and about 35 gallons of liquid remained in the container. Sampling results revealed oil, acetone, xylenes, toluene, and ethylbenzene above state cleanup levels. Acetone is commonly used as a solvent and xylenes, toluene, and ethylbenzene are compounds found in petroleum products such as gasoline.

In 2021, a site visit was done. Soil samples were collected and analyzed. Although some petroleum was still found in the soil samples, no contamination was above state cleanup levels.
