The site was issued a Site No Further Action Letter on June 27, 2007.

Site Background

The site is located at the southwest corner of Snohomish County Airport (SCA), and it was used by the SCA Fire Department for training exercises.  The fire pit was an approximately 40 feet by 80 feet oval earthen depression, about 1 to 2 feet deep adjacent to the northeast-southwest trending Taxiway K-5.  The pit has been filled.  The Site and its immediately vicinity are currently being developed for aviation-related commercial and industrial use.

Cleanup Conducted

An estimated 170 cubic yards of contaminated soil were excavated and disposed of off-site.  Soil confirmation samples showed compliance with the MTCA Method A cleanup levels for unrestricted land use. 

Contaminants Of Concern

·         Total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel, total petroleum hydrocarbons as oil and lead into the soil.

Voluntary Cleanup Program

This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.

Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
