Site Description & History

The Moses Lake City Maintenance Facility site was used for storage, fueling and maintaining city vehicles.

Underground storage tanks that held fuel leaked resulting in soil and groundwater contamination. Contamination also came from the handling and storage of petroleum products. Ecology placed the site on the Hazardous Sites List because the petroleum and lead in soil required cleanup. Petroleum in groundwater also required cleanup.

Contractors removed nearly 13,500 tons of petroleum-contaminated soil, and work was done to address petroleum in groundwater.

Ecology removed the site from the Hazardous Sites List in 2007.
