The next steps of the cleanup will be:​

• Selecting a consultant for the Remedial Investigation field work which is anticipated to begin September 2021- March 2022
• Drafting the Feasibility Study which is anticipated to begin May – June 2022
• Finalizing the draft Remedial Investigation (RI) and Feasibility Study (FS)
• Finalizing the draft Cleanup Action Plan (DCAP)
• Holding a 30-day comment period on the draft RI/FS and DCAP

The Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) is Washington’s environmental cleanup law.  It provides requirements for contaminated site cleanup and sets standards that protect human health and the environment.  Ecology enacts the MTCA and oversees cleanups.
​The MTCA site cleanup process is completed in steps over a variable timeline. 

Tiki Car Wash has been in operation since 1971 as a gasoline station and car wash. The site is located at 11909 N.E. 8th Street, Bellevue, WA.

In 1990, Ecology received a report that a release of petroleum compounds may have taken place on the car wash property.

Tiki Enterprises and the Washington State Department of Ecology entered into a Consent Decree (CD) (No. 93-2-07710-6) on March 29, 1993. The CD was to draft the Remedial Investigation and Feasibility (RI/FS) Study, draft a Cleanup Action Plan (DCAP), and to implement the Cleanup Action Plan (CAP).  

The Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study were drafted in September 2010, however these documents have not been finalized and have not gone out for Public Comment, due to the significant data gaps identified in the draft Remedial Investigation.

Remedial Investigation drafted in September 2010, needs to be updated and previously identified data gaps need to be addressed. The Feasibility Study may need to be revised depending on results of a final remedial investigation.
