Oil Re Refining Company Inc Kennewick
In January 2017, a release of approximately 150 gallons of oil occurred at the Oil Re-refining Company, Inc. (ORRCO) facility in Kennewick.
Paved areas were cleaned using absorbent material. Approximately 16.77 tons of petroleum-impacted soil was disposed of at the Finley Buttes Landfill in Boardman, Oregon. The excavated soil depth ranged from 4 to 12 inches. All visually oily soils were reportedly removed and replaced with clean rock fill.
In September 2017, soil samples were collected at three locations beneath the clean rock fill within the native soils. The soil samples were analyzed by NWTPHDx for diesel and heavy oil range total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH). No TPH was detected in any of the three samples.
Based upon cleanup activities conducted at the site, Ecology has determined the site is no longer a threat to human health and the environment. Ecology made a no further action determination in October 2017.
