Ecology held a 30 day comment period from September 5 - October 6, 2014. Ecology has determined that the cleanup work at the Site meets the requirement of state cleanup regulations.  The Site was cleaned up to the point it no longer poses a threat to human health or the environment. 

Site Background

Northwest Pipeline Snohomish MS is located at 13931 SR2, Monroe, WA 98290.  This facility consists of a natural gas line meter station and associated heater within a fenced and locked enclosure area.  The primary source of contamination at the Site was accidental spillage of mercury at a meter station which occurred during the historic maintenance and calibration of mercury containing differential pressure meters.  The mercury release only impacted soil at the site. It was determined that groundwater was not impacted by the contamination from the facility.

The site was ranked a five and placed on the Hazardous Sites List (HSL).  The Hazardous Sites List is a record of contaminated sites throughout the state that are ranked on a scale of one to five.  One represents the greatest potential threat to human health an the environment relative to all sites ranked, and five represents the least potential threat.

Voluntary Cleanup Program

This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.

Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
