The Chevron 97348 Site (Site) is located at 500 and 510 N Wenatchee Avenue (formerly 502 N Wenatchee Avenue) at the west corner of the intersection of Fifth Street and North Wenatchee Avenue in Wenatchee. Chevron operated a gasoline service station at the Site until 1990. A gasoline release was reported in 1990. All buildings, associated structures, fuel delivery equipment and dispensers were removed in 1991. An office building and car wash are now operating at the Site.
The Site is currently on Ecology’s Hazardous Sites List with a ranking of “2”. Sites on the Hazardous Sites List are a priority for Ecology, and have completed a Site Hazard Assessment (SHA). A SHA provides information about the environmental risk of the Site. Risk is based on the amount of contaminants, how toxic they are, and how easily they can come in contact with people and the environment. Sites are ranked relative to each other on a scale of “1” to “5”; with a rank of “5” being the lowest.

Cleanup Activities
In 1990, an investigation was performed at the Site in prior to underground storage tank (UST) decommissioning. Limited information is available regarding this investigation. Five soil borings were drilled at the Site; four of these borings were completed as groundwater monitoring wells. Soil samples collected from the soil borings did not contain detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons.
In February 1991, three gasoline USTs, one used oil UST, one heating oil UST, and one UST of unknown use, as well as the product dispensers, fuel lines, and three hydraulic hoists were removed from the site. Approximately 300-400 cubic yards of contaminated soils were removed from the Site. Analytical results indicated that contaminants present in soils remaining onsite were below MTCA Method A cleanup levels. In 2001, a Sub-surface Environmental Investigation was conducted. Two soil borings were completed and soil samples were taken. TPH and BTEX compounds were not detected above laboratory reporting limits.
Groundwater sampling has been conducted at this Site at various intervals since 1991, when five soil borings were advanced and four monitoring wells were installed. Sample results from the January 2006 event indicated petroleum contamination (TPH-G) above the MTCA Method A cleanup level. Sample results the May 2005 sampling event indicated petroleum contamination (TPH-D and TPH-O) above MTCA Method A cleanup levels.
In April 2018, Ecology and Chevron U.S.A. entered into an Agreed Order for the completion of a Remedial Investigation, Feasibility Study, and Draft Cleanup Action Plan at the Site.
In May 2019, Ecology determined that the requirements of the Agreed Order has been satisfied and has been removed from Ecology's Hazardous Sites List.
