Ecology reviewed the site cleanup activity and considers the cleanup complete. We held a public comment period on removing the site from the Contaminated Sites List in June - July 2014. We received no comments and have removed the site from the Contaminated Sites List.

Site Description

This former gas station has been operated by several companies and is currently a Fred Meyer gas station. From 1991 - 1995, investigations found soil and groundwater polluted with:
  • gasoline 
  • diesel
  • heavy oil petroleum hydrocarbons
  • related volatile organic compounds

Site Cleanup

From 1995 - 1998, the owners removed contaminated soil and underground storage tanks. A soil vapor extraction system removed 1,091 pounds of contamination. In 2012, the gas station closed and owners removed the rest of the tanks and pumps. After cleanup, sampling found only remaining groundwater contamination. The owners injected a compound to help break down the remaining pollution. 

Sampling through 2014 showed no contamination above cleanup levels. Ecology considers cleanup complete. The site was cleaned up under the Voluntary Cleanup Program.

This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.

Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
