Littlerock Grocery
Site Background
The Littlerock Grocery site is currently a gas station and convenience store. Soil and groundwater were tested for petroleum-related contamination as part of an environmental assessment in 1990. The test results indicated that groundwater was impacted by a leaking underground fuel storage system. The leak contaminated groundwater with BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes).
The property owners worked with Ecology's Voluntary Cleanup Program to clean up the site. Cleanup activities involved:
- Testing soil and groundwater to establish the extent and nature of contamination.
- Establishing a groundwater monitoring system.
- Addressing petroleum contamination with natural attenuation.
Several soil and groundwater tests showed that the cleanup was successful. Ecology has determined that no further action is necessary.
Voluntary Cleanup Program
This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.
Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
