Description | Metals, semivolatile organic compounds, and PCBs were analyzed in sediment samples from four sites behind Upriver Dam on the Spokane River, collected during October 1999. This work was done in support of ongoing environmental studies of the Spokane River. As in many other parts of the river, sediment quality screening guidelines were exceeded for zinc, lead, cadmium, and PCBs. Several additional semivolatile compounds, including polyaromatic hydrocarbons, phenol, 4-methylphenol, retene, benzyl alcohol, and benzoic acid, also appeared to be chemicals of potential concern at some sites. Biological testing is recommended to verify the presence of toxic conditions. | ||||
