Description Total and inorganic arsenic were analyzed in eight fish and shellfish species to determine the appropriateness of placing five Puget Sound waterbodies on the 1998 303(d) list for exceeding EPA human health criteria in edible tissue. The waterbodies were Dyes Inlet, Port Washington Narrows, Sinclair Inlet, Port Orchard, and Eagle Harbor. The arsenic criterion is for inorganic arsenic, but the listings were based on total arsenic data. Results showed that inorganic arsenic concentrations either did not exceed the criterion or exceeded due to natural conditions. It is therefore recommended that these waterbodies be taken off the 303(d) list.
