Description This screening-level study is designed to characterize water and sediments in streams in the vicinity of selected inactive or abandoned metals mines or mining districts. Drainage from a few selected mines may also be opportunistically sampled to compare to the adjacent stream chemistry. The study will be conducted by staff from the Department of Ecology’s Environmental Assessment and Water Quality Programs along with the Department of Natural Resources Division of Geology and Earth Resources. This study is similar in design to two previous studies conducted by the same staff in 1997 and 2000.
