Description Black Lake, Conner’s Lake, Mountain Lake, and Lake Pleasant are used to estimate background arsenic in surface waters, sediments, and freshwater fish. Arsenic speciation analysis was emphasized in this study. At all lakes, the total inorganic arsenic in water exceeded the NTR criterion of 0.018 µg/L for the consumption of both water and organisms (e.g., fish). Only two of 21 fish tissue composites had any arsenic detections. There were no clear relationships between arsenic concentrations in water, sediment, and fish tissue.
