Description The Washington State Department of Ecology, with assistance from the North Fork Palouse River Watershed Committee, is establishing a total maximum daily load (TMDL) for fecal coliform bacteria in the north fork of the Palouse River. This TMDL (or Water Cleanup Plan) will address impairments of the beneficial uses of the north fork of the Palouse River and its tributaries.

The general purposes of this submittal document are to:

• Provide an analysis of fecal coliform data from the north fork of the Palouse River from sampling performed by the Palouse Conservation District between June 2001 and September 2003

• Identify potential non-point sources of fecal coliform

• Summarize ongoing and planned actions that will allow the north fork of the Palouse River to meet fecal coliform water quality standards

• Fulfill requirements of the federal Clean Water Act.
