| Description | Groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples were collected at Cornet Bay Marina to determine if petroleum contaminants from a 1989 fuel release were currently migrating into the adjacent intertidal areas. Groundwater continues to be contaminated, but there was no evidence that it is currently impacting adjacent intertidal sediments. No significant contamination was found in the two streams bracketing the site. Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) levels exceeded cleanup criteria at all six sampling stations adjacent to the bulkhead, but hydrocarbon identification suggests that the PAHs in the sediments are due to the creosote-treated bulkhead. |
