Description | In the 1970s, Congress and the Washington State Legislature adopted clean water laws to protect the health of people, communities and the environment. Our clean water laws recognize the critical role of wetlands – marshes, bogs and similar places – and guide public agencies and private landowners as we work to preserve, protect, and restore them. This publication explains how the Department of Ecology is using mitigation to minimize damage to wetlands and offset the losses when damage is unavoidable. |
