Description | Washington State Legislature Engrossed Second Substitute House Bill 1605 was approved by the Governor on May 6, 2005. This bill added a new chapter to Title 70 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) – Chapter 70.140– Area-wide soil contamination. The law directs the Washington Department of Ecology, in cooperation with the Department of Social and Health Services, the Department of Health, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and local health departments, to assist schools and childcares west of the crest of the Cascade mountains to reduce the potential for children’s exposure to area-wide soil contamination. Area-wide soil contamination is low to moderate level contamination, dispersed over large geographic areas. |
