Description | Johns Creek is a small stream emptying into Oakland Bay. An instream flow rule was adopted in 1985 which established minimum flows for the future health of Johns Creek and its aquatic habitat (Kennedy Goldsborough Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA) Instream Flow Rule, WAC 173-514). Monitoring data shows during the past five summers, flows have been below the minimum threshold. Since 1985, over 250 permit exempt wells were installed in the basin. On December 16, 2009, Ecology received a request from the Squaxin Island Tribe to close Johns Creek Basin to additional surface water and groundwater withdrawals. The Tribe is concerned that additional withdrawals will further reduce stream flows needed for fish, habitat and Oakland Bay. |
