| Description | The purpose of this project is to implement a long-term ambient groundwater monitoring program in the Sumas-Blaine aquifer. This study is designed to build on previous monitoring efforts in order to provide an annual assessment of groundwater nitrate concentrations. The results of this study reinforce findings from previous studies, that groundwater contains elevated nitrate concentrations. Twenty-seven wells were sampled in March 2009. A total of 41% of the wells contain nitrate concentrations above (not meeting) the drinking water standard of 10 mg/L. The mean nitrate concentration was 10.12 mg/L, and the maximum nitrate concentration was 28 mg/L. |
