| Description | The Department of Ecology completed a study to (1) identify the primary sources of toxic chemicals and (2) estimate annual releases of these chemicals to the Puget Sound basin. This source identification and inventory was undertaken as part of the larger Puget Sound Toxics Loading Analysis. Seventeen chemicals and chemical groups were evaluated in the study. Results indicate that most chemicals are released from a diverse array of sources rather than a single point source. Petroleum was estimated to be released in the largest quantity of the chemicals evaluated. Recommendations are provided for specific source control actions to reduce releases |
