Description | Elevated levels of two pesticides, ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloropropane (1,2-DCP), are present in domestic groundwater supplies in northwestern Whatcom County. This is a follow-up study that focuses on 32 private domestic wells, 19 of which were also sampled in 1998. During this 2008 study, pesticides were detected in 59% of the wells sampled in the Bertrand Creek area. Six wells (19%) did not meet the drinking water standard for EDB, and one well (3%) did not meet the drinking water standard for 1,2-DCP. Two additional pesticides, dibromochloropropane (DBCP), and 1,2,3-Trichloropropane (1,2,3-TCP), were also detected in groundwater. | ||||
