Description | In June 2011 the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) closed a 27.7-square-mile basin that drains into Carpenter and Fisher Creeks south of Mount Vernon to new domestic wells for new homes. In September 2011, Ecology notified Skagit County that a second Skagit River sub-basin, the 28 square miles of the Nookachamps main stem east of Mount Vernon, may be closed to new domestic wells in 2012. | ||||||
