Description The Interim Action Plan lays out what Ecology will do to manage risk and clean up some areas of the Tacoma Smelter Plume. Asarco’s former plant in Tacoma polluted over 1,000 square miles with arsenic and lead. In late 2009, Ecology received $94 million from Asarco for cleanup as part of a bankruptcy settlement. The actions in this plan will lower risk for people living within the plume.
