Description In 2012, the Washington State Department of Ecology surveyed surface sediment conditions throughout Port Gardner Bay, including portions of eastern Possession Sound, the Port of Everett, and the Snohomish River Delta. Sediment condition was assessed using four indices of sediment contamination, toxicity to laboratory animals, sediment-dwelling invertebrate communities (benthos), and combined Sediment Quality Triad Index. Overall sediment quality was generally high throughout most of the study area.

This report gives the primary results of the 2012 survey and comparisons to the 2007 survey of the encompassing Whidbey Basin region, all of Puget Sound, and the Puget Sound Partnership's “Vital Signs” indicator targets.
