Description The Washington Nitrate Prioritization Project objective is to delineate areas where nitrates are high in groundwater, and then prioritize those areas by impact to people and resources. A database of nitrate sampling results for groundwater is being assembled from state and federal databases. Nitrate risk studies are being used with the sampling results to select topographically distinct areas at high risk of groundwater contamination by nitrate. Other GIS resources are also being used, such as soils, surficial geology, irrigated areas and others. This information will be prepared so that it may be used for a future web based map application, which may be proposed after the completion of this phase of the project.
