Description The Washington State Department of Ecology is proposing to remove Coca Cola Bottling Co Bellingham (Site) from the Hazardous Sites List. The Site is located at 2101 South Woburn Street in Bellingham, Washington. In the late 1970s, a 2,000-gallon underground fuel storage tank (UST) was installed at the Site to service the Coca Cola vehicles. In 1989, a spill of approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel were reported to Ecology.

Ecology added the property to the Hazardous Sites List in 2011. The Site was ranked “3” under the Washington Ranking Method (WARM) for gasoline and diesel contamination in both soil and ground water.

From 1999 to 2014, multiple cleanup efforts were conducted to remediate soil and ground water contamination. A total of 5,529 tons of soil was removed from the Site and taken to a permitted facility for disposal. Soil samples collected from the bottom and sidewalls in the excavations confirmed there were no concentrations over the state cleanup standards. Following the contaminated soil removal, ground water samples were collected from five monitoring wells over four consecutive quarters from 2014 to 2015. All the laboratory results showed that ground water was no longer impacted.

Ecology determined the Site cleanup effort meets state cleanup standards for soil and ground water which is protective of human health and the environment. Therefore, Ecology is proposing to delist the Site from the Hazardous Sites List.
