| Description | The Department of Ecology is proposing to remove Sudden Valley Resort Site (Site) from the state’s Hazardous Sites List. The Site is located at 2650 Lake Louise Road, Bellingham, WA 98229. The Site is located on a property known as Area Z. The property is part of Sudden Valley residential and recreational community that was developed during the 1970s. During the expansion of the sewer lift station in 1999, petroleum contamination from leaking underground fuel storage tanks was discovered. Ecology conducted an initial investigation in 2009, concluded that gasoline and diesel contamination were present in soil and ground water, and completed a Site Hazard Assessment (SHA) of the Site. The Site received an SHA rank of “5” on a scale of 1 to 5, where “1” represents the highest risk and “5” is the lowest risk. This ranking estimates the potential threat to human health and the environment relative to other sites in Washington State. Ecology is proposing to remove the Site from the Hazardous Sites List. Ecology determined that the cleanup conducted at the Site meets the state requirements.
