Author(s) Washington State Department of Ecology
Description Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) contracted an alternatives assessment (AA) on the use of alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs) in products from 2019 – 2020. This was not a full alternatives assessment, but instead what we termed a “lay of the land.”

In this format, the goal was not to thoroughly evaluate alternatives to a specific chemical in one particular product or use, but to get an overview of how a chemical is used and what alternatives are available in different industry segments.
NOTES This publication was revised in May 2021 to update the Northwest regional office's contact information.
