Description The Tacoma Metals site is located at 1919 Portland Avenue in the Tacoma Tideflats. Historic uses include a creosoting plant, a coke plant and a metal recycling facility. The site is currently an empty paved lot. Ecology is directing International Paper Company, General Metals of Tacoma, the Estate of Sophie Sussman and Tacoma Metals, the four Potentially Liable Parties to further study the soil and groundwater on the western part of the site and areas offsite that were affected by the former creosoting plant. The contaminants include petroleum products and creosote (total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel and oil range organics, total polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and/or total Naphthalene). These chemicals can be harmful to human health and the environment.
