Description A 2020 federal rule rolling narrowing the definition of waters of the United States means many wetlands in Washington lost U.S. Clean Water Act protection. Wetlands and other waters are still protected but the federal rollback will result in a higher workload for Ecology and less certainty for developers. In addition, the state is seeking to add more staff to handle the increased workload in issuing Administrative Orders to protect wetlands and other waters.
