Description Since 2005, the Department of Ecology has carried out a long-term monitoring study of mercury levels in freshwater fish. Each year Ecology collects ten individual largemouth or smallmouth bass from six waterbodies throughout the state and analyzes total mercury in the fillet tissue. Sites are re-sampled every five years to evaluate trends in freshwater fish mercury concentrations over time.

This report summarizes findings from the 2017, 2018, and 2019 sampling years and provides an overview of trends in bass mercury levels since 2005.
