Description | Whatcom County and the Department of Ecology are collaborating on the Swift Creek flood control and sediment management project located east of Everson near Sumas Mountain. Swift Creek and downstream Sumas River carry asbestos from the Sumas Mountain landslide. In dry weather, sediments containing asbestos pose a hazard. Avoid walking, driving, cycling, riding horses, or disturbing the riverbed or dredge piles along Swift Creek and Sumas River, or where flooding may have left deposits. | ||||
