Description Concrete is a vital material to the construction industry. Potential pollutants of concern released from concrete included: antimony, arsenic, barium, total chromium, copper, nickel, lead, manganese, mercury, selenium, sulfur (as sulfate) and zinc. This sampling effort will focus on concrete manufacturing and/or concrete recycling facilities, with an unlined pond, lagoon, or other impoundment discharging to groundwater or to a surface water outfall.
Eighty of the 229 facilities meeting these selection criteria will be sampled for the pollutants of concern identified in the literature review. Ecology will be conducting two sampling events in winter and summer of 2024 to capture seasonal variability. A final technical memorandum will be prepared at the completion of the two sampling events and will include summary statistical information useful to the Sand & Gravel General Permit’s 2026 reissuance.
