Description This data summary report presents water quality results for groundwater samples collected in October 2023 at the former Lakewood Plaza Cleaners site in Lakewood, WA. The site, listed as Lakewood Ponders Corner, is on the National Priorities List due to chlorinated solvent contamination that affects municipal water supply wells currently operated by the Lakewood Water District. The groundwater contamination originates from improper waste disposal at the former dry cleaner’s facility. Groundwater monitoring began at the site in 1985. The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) has performed groundwater monitoring at the site since the early 1990s.

Ecology conducted a groundwater sampling event in October 2023, collecting samples from seven monitoring wells and the Lakewood Water District production well H1.

Tetrachloroethene (PCE) concentrations in samples collected during October 2023 indicate continued exceedance of the project cleanup levels in two wells (MW-20B, LPMW-2). PCE concentrations greater than the 5 µg/L cleanup level ranged from 12.5 µg/L to 624 µg/L in wells LPMW-2 and MW-20B, respectively. The sample collected from the Lakewood Water District municipal well H1 reported an estimated PCE concentration of 0.97 J µg/L, below the 5 µg/L cleanup level.
