| Description | The Jefferson County Landfill served as the primary municipal solid waste disposal facility for Jefferson County until its closure in 1993. Groundwater monitoring began in 1987 in response to the adoption of Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 173-304. In December 2024, Aspect Consulting indicated that the landfill is approaching long-term stability. However, arsenic concentrations have stabilized at levels exceeding the groundwater quality criterion of 0.05 µg/L. Aspect Consulting proposed a provisional site-specific enforcement limit of 12.6 µg/L. Additional data is needed to confirm background arsenic conditions and will be collected by sampling for arsenic at domestic wells near the landfill. The results will be used to determine whether observed arsenic concentrations are consistent with natural background conditions, supporting regulatory decisions regarding the completion of post-closure activities. | ||||
