Description A Class II inspection was conducted at Intalco on July 25-27, 1988. Intalco is a large primary aluminum smelter near Ferndale, Washington, with two outfalls into the Strait of Georgia. Effluent and receiving water sediment samples were collected for general chemistry, priority pollutant, and bioassay analyses. Both discharges met permit limits. Very high concentrations of PAHs and PCBs were found in the sediments near the process wastewater (001) outfall. Some PAHs were also found in the 001 discharge.
