Description The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) conducts several statewide monitoring programs including marine water, marine sediment, and freshwater monitoring. The marine water program, which encompasses Puget Sound and two coastal estuaries, was initiated in 1967. Since then, long-term monthly water quality data have been collected at over 55 stations. Recent development of a comprehensive environmental protection program for the Puget Sound Region has directed Ecology to conduct additional monitoring tasks, seasonal and solstice monitoring.
