Description A commercially available atomic fluorescence mercury analyzer was evaluated using USEPA protocols to determine low part-per-trillion (ppt) detection capabilities. Modified USEPA analytical methods were used to determine total mercury in a 10 ppt reference solution. Analytical results using modified USEPA Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) instrument detection limit (IDL) protocols indicated IDLs between 15 ppt. The technique promises to provide sufficient detection capability to satisfy analytical requirements resultant from the USEPA chronic and acute water quality standards.
