Description Cleanup of contaminated sediments along urban waterfronts has become a world-wide problem. As with other working waterfronts, cleanup of Seattle's waterfront has been delayed because of uncertainty regarding sources of contamination and the interrelationship between point sources, non-point sources, construction projects, and resuspension by vessel traffic and currents. The results of field studies are presented that address the potential for sediment recontamination following proposed cleanup projects, sources of contamination and their relative magnitudes, and the natural and anthropogenic processes that affect transport of contaminated sediments along the waterfront.
