Description | In March 1999, Governor Locke requested that the departments of Ecology and Health produce a summary of statewide groundwater contamination. The attached information describes and shows where chemical contaminants are known to be polluting or threatening drinking water at specific sites and across large regional areas in Washington state. This report provides the most-current information available about the status of cleanup or remediation at each site or area, and indicates the status of human exposure to the contaminated water. Because each contaminated site is different, health risks are assessed and follow-up actions determined on a case-by-case basis. This report solely addresses chemical contamination that affects or potentially affects drinking-water sources; it does not include information about all groundwater contamination in Washington. In fact, it is likely that additional contaminated sites exist that have not been identified yet. |
