Description | Previous Department of Ecology studies found three organophosphate pesticides -- azinphos-methyl, chlorpyrifos, and diazinon -- that failed to meet water quality standards in surface water draining cranberry growing areas in Grayland. Most cranberry farmers have been implementing best management practices (BMPs) to reduce concentrations of organophosphate pesticides. Although some reductions have been observed, concentrations of chlorpyrifos and diazinon are still failing to meet water quality standards. To meet water quality standards, all Grayland cranberry farmers will need to implement BMPs. Two pesticide test kits were evaluated as a tool to track overall concentrations of organophosphate pesticides. Neither kit is recommended for this purpose. |
