Description | Portions of South Puget Sound do not meet Washington State water quality standards for dissolved oxygen. To determine whether humans are contributing to these low oxygen levels, the Department of Ecology collected and analyzed data, developed circulation and water quality models, and assessed alternative management scenarios. This report summarizes the calibration of the South and Central Puget Sound water circulation model. We also estimated flushing time in various inlets of South Puget Sound for late-summer conditions and simulated dye tracers from rivers and wastewater treatment plants to understand areas of potential influence. The separate water quality model report addresses nutrient and oxygen patterns. |
