Description In 2021, Ecology carried out a statewide survey of phthalate concentrations in rivers, lakes, and the marine environment. The study was designed to evaluate current levels of phthalates from a wide range of waterbody types, hydrological conditions, and contamination potential. An extended suite of 16 phthalates and 3 non-phthalate plasticizers was analyzed for this study to provide data on previously untested phthalates and non-phthalate plasticizers in the state. This report summarizes results of the extended suite analyzed in samples of surface water, freshwater sediment, suspended particulate matter, and marine sediment from sites across the state.
The mission of the Department of Ecology is to protect, preserve, and enhance Washington’s environment. To help us meet that goal, please consider the environment before you print or request a copy.
