Description | Ecology is working to implement the new Sediment Management Standards rule that went into effect September 1, 2013. A key provision in this new rule is the concept of regional background in sediment. Regional background refers to concentrations of chemicals in sediment from diffuse sources such as stormwater and deposits from the air. Ecology is developing regional background for three areas in Port Gardner Bay (near city of Everett), North Olympic Peninsula (near city of Port Angeles), and Bellingham Bay (near city of Bellingham) and is considering regional background for the Lower Duwamish (near city of Seattle). | ||||||
