Description Manufacturers use flame retardants in consumer products as one way to meet flammability standards. Exposure to some types of flame retardants can lead to negative health effects in people. In wildlife, these chemicals can bioaccumulate at higher levels in the food chain—meaning species like orcas are more exposed. Find ways to protect yourself and learn more about the Ecology programs aiming to prevent toxic flame retardants from reaching the environment.
