| Description | Washington’s Battery Stewardship Program, established under Chapter 70A.555 RCW, is a new statewide system to safely collect and recycle used batteries. It was created to reduce health and environmental risks from batteries—especially the risk of fires or chemical exposure when batteries are thrown away in the garbage or recycling. The program shifts responsibility for managing used batteries from consumers and local governments to battery producers, who must fund and operate the collection and recycling system. | ||||
